The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced that Luther College softball players Amanda Witzlib and Lindsey Uphoff have been named the league's Female Athlete of the Week and Performer of the Week respectively for the week ending Sunday, March 27.
The duo helped lead nationally ranked No. 7 Luther to a perfect 12-0 record on its recent spring trip to the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida last week. The 12 wins increased Luther's overall mark to 19-1.
Witzlib, a junior pitcher, made five appearances that included four starts. She posted an ERA of 0.65 allowing just eight hits and two earned runs in 21 2/3 innings of work. She tossed her first career no-hitter in Luther's 8-0 victory over Allegheny College in five innings. The very next day she combined with junior pitcher Annie Versnik to no-hit St. Norbert College in Luther's 10-0 victory over the Green Knights.
Uphoff, a senior outfielder, hit safely in all nine games and posted a batting average and on-base-percentage of .571 during the week. A slapper who bats in the second slot of the lineup, Uphoff had six multi-hit games including two four-hit games. She scored nine times, recorded two steals and and drove in three runs. Uphoff currently leads the team with a .500 average and on-base-percentage of .514 and ranks second in runs scored with 19.
