Luther won its American Rivers Conference opener over Nebraska Wesleyan University 1-0 in double overtime this afternoon in Lincoln, Neb. This was the fourth overtime of the year for the Norse, and was also the first win of the season, that snapped a four-match losing streak.
Sommer Stevens scored the game winner in the 106th minute on a corner kick. The goal was her first of the year.
Kennedy Bergren recorded her second shutout of the season. She had plenty of help defensively in front of her as the Prairie Wolves were able to get just two shots off the entire game and only one was on goal.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 1-4-3. Nebraska Wesleyan fell to 5-3.
Luther will resume play on next Wednesday, Sept. 26, when it will travel to UW-La Crosse. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
