Russ Schouweiler

Head Coach/Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Fundraising

  • The 2019 campaign will be Coach Schouweiler's 10th year as head coach
  • 2005 Graduate of Luther College
  • Led Norse to the 2016 Iowa Conference regular season and six-team tournament championships and their first appearance in the NCAA III National Tournament
  • The regular season title was the fifth in school history
  • Twice during his tenure his staff has been named the Conference Coaching Staff of the Year (2013, 2016)
  • Has led the Norse to an overall record of 90-67-12 that includes a mark of 45-28 in conference play
  • Four-year letter winner while at Luther who played on two conference championship and two national tournament teams, including an Elite 8 appearance in 2001
  • Took over Norse program after serving two years as an assistant women's coach at Macalester College
  • Prior to his duties at Macalester, he was the girls head coach at Simley High School from 2005-08, where his teams were consistently ranked in the top-10 in Minnesota Class 3A and 4A
  • From 2002-10 he was asenior coach for the St. Croix Soccer Club reaching the Minnesota State Cup Finals in 2007 and 2009 and the semifinals in 2008 as well as three straight indoor league championships from 2007-09.
  • From 2004-05 he was the Decorah High School head boys coach and led the Vikings to a 15-5 record and a fourth place finish at the state tournament

Julie Shockey Trytten

Assistant Coach

  • 2001 graduate of Luther College
  • Begins her 19th year as an assistant coach
  • Along with helping with the soccer program she is Assistant Director of Admissions
  • Four-year letter winner during her playing days for the Norse

Paul Vanney

Assistant Coach

  • 2015 graduate of Luther College - B.A. - Mathematics
  • 2018 will be his third year as an assistant coach
  • Also served as a student coach for both men's and women's programs from 2012-2014
  • Along with the soccer program he works in Luther's software development team
