The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College junior Morgan Kranz (Sauke Centre, Minn.) has been named the league's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Monday, Oct. 7, 2019.
Kranz was the A-R-C Golf Championship medalist and was named the league's MVP. She shot rounds of 80-75-77-232 and finished six strokes ahead of Hannah Gordon of Simpson College who shot 238. Kranz was also the only golfer to post two rounds in the 70's. The 54-hole tournament was played at Ames Golf & Country, Club. The par 72 measured 5,815 yards.
With her individual title, she became the first Luther golfer to win the conference tournament since 1998, when Kara Reiman finished atop the leader board in a three-way tie with Fay Bradley and Hannah Willenborg of Simpson College. She also became the third golfer in Luther history to be named league MVP, joining Melanie House (1991) and Annie Stelow (1986, 1988), who was crowned the conference champion twice. Kranz also earned her third all-conference honor, becoming the sixth golfer in Luther history to accomplish this feat during their careers. To earn all-conference honors a golfer must finish in the top-10 of the leader board.
Her efforts helped Luther to a third place finish at the season finale. The Norse shot 1011 and finished five strokes behind runner-ups Wartburg College at 1006. The University of Dubuque won the team title with a three-day total of 985.
