The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced that Luther College freshman Morgan Kranz has been named the Women's Golf Performer of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Sept. 24.
Kranz helped lead Luther to the team title of the Luther Invitational played at Oneota Golf & Country Club, Decorah, Iowa. Kranz shot identical rounds of 79 on the par 72 layout that measured 5,802 yards. She was the tournament medalist carding a 158. Kranz won the individual title by four strokes. Kranz was the only player in the 32-player field to shoot in the 70's both days in conditions that were extremely warm with 15-30 mph wind gusts.
Luther won the team title by 10 strokes shooting rounds of 334-344-678. University of Dubuque was second at 688, followed by St. Scholastica at 704, St. Mary's University at 746, and Loras College with a 749.
The Norse have played in four events this season and Kranz has posted a top-10 finish in every tournament. Her stroke average of 78.3 leads the Norse.
The 72-hole Iowa Conference Tournament will begin with the first 36-holes Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, Cedar Falls, Iowa. The final 36-holes will be played at the Indianola Country Club, Indanola, Iowa Oct. 6-7.
