A cold shooting second half by Luther resulted in a 64-62 loss to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls this afternoon in the Regents Center.
The Norse jumped out to a 20-13 first quarter lead and finished the half leading by five 36-31. With 7:35 remaining in the third frame, the Falcons put together a 17-4 run and led 51-47 at the end of the third quarter and never trailed the rest of the way. The Norse made eight field goals in the final two frames and shot 24%.
Laura Hamilton led a trio of double digit scorers for the Norse. Hamilton, who recorded a career high eight steals, was credited with 19 points. She was 6-of-13 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Sarah Holtz and Anna Edel finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Falcons, who snapped a three-game losing streak, was led by Taylor Paulsrud who scored a game high 21 points.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 2-5, while River Falls improved to 4-4.
Luther will return to action Dec. 16-17 when they will play in the UC Santa Cruz Holiday Tournament in Santa Cruz, California. The Norse are scheduled to face Santa Cruz on the 16th at 6:00 p.m. and Pacific University (OR) on the 17th at 4:00 p.m. Both times are Pacific Standard Time.
