Luther secured a spot in the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament after defeating Coe College 83-76 this afternoon at Kohawk Arena. The Norse never trailed and led by as many as 21 points late in the third quarter. The Kohawks made things a bit interesting down the stretch outscoring the Norse 11-1 in the final two minutes.
Luther shot the ball well connecting on 52 percent (26-40) from the field and 83 percent (25-30) from the free throw line. Defensively, Luther held Coe to 35 percent (23-64) and also won the battle of the boards 36-30.
Claire Marburger led all scorers with 26 points. Sydney Rehnelt, who got her first start of the year, responded with a career high 17. Madison Spence also tallied double digits with 15.
The Kohawks were led by the trio of Aleena Hobbs (18), Jenna Lehman (16) and Jordan Holmes (10).
The victory snapped Coe's eight-game win streak and gives Luther sole possession of second place in the league standings at 9-3, 15-8 overall. Coe fell to 9-4 in the IIAC, 12-10 overall.
Luther returns to action at home on Wednesday, Feb. 7 when it will host unbeaten and nationally ranked No. 3 Wartburg College. Tip-off will take place at 6:00 p.m.
