The American Rivers Conference has announced the women's basketball awards and all-conference team for the 2018-19 campaign. Luther College juniors Laura Hamilton (Minnetonka, Minn./Chanhassen) and Sarah Holtz (Austin, Minn./Pacelli Catholic) were two of the 17-member all-conference team.
For the second consecutive year, Hamilton was also voted Defensive Player of the Year. Hamilton totaled 65 steals for an average of 4.1 over 16 league games to lead the conference. Her steal total is 15 better than her 49 from year ago.
She was also credited with 77 rebounds and 14 blocked shots. She ranked fifth in the conference for assists per game (4.3) , eighth in points per game (12.3) and tied for first in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5). On the national level, Hamilton ranks 11th in total steals (94) and ninth in steals per game (3.76).
Additionally, Hamilton was selected first-team all-conference, as the defensive player of the year is not honored as all-conference unless selected to the first or second team by the coaches. This is the second-straight season she was selected first-team, adding to her freshman season honorable mention recognition.
Holtz is making her first appearance on the all-conference team and was a second team honoree. She finished the conference schedule ranked seventh for points per game (13.0) and sixth for rebounds per game (6.8). She led the Norse in scoring and rebounding producing 334 points and 168 boards. She also led the team from the free throw line shooting 78.4% (76-97).
The duo helped lead Luther to a conference record of 10-6 and a fourth consecutive appearance in the A-R-C six-team tournament. The Norse advanced to the semifinal round for the 11th time in the 20-year history of the tournament.
