Luther will begin the 2019 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals against No. 16 UW-Whitewater.

Round One Final
Luther was defeated by No. 16 UW-Whitewater by a final of 30-12 in the opening round of the 2019 Division III National Duals. Keenan Feldpausch (285) finished the match with a fall (4:24) over Jordan Festge. Michael Petersen (157) recorded his first career victory in a Norse uniform, posting a 4-0 decision over Scott Schiedt. Austin Hansen (174) defeated No. 6 Nick Bonomo by decision 11-6.
Luther will face the loser a second round match between No. 13 Roger Williams and No. 6 Mount Union that is taking place at 11:00 a.m. This consolation match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Consolation Bracket First Round
Luther won five of the nine matches that were wrestled in the first round of the consolation bracket, but was defeated by No. 13 Roger Williams (RI) 18-15. The Norse were open at 125 due to injury.
Luther will wrestle one more match tonight at approximately 7:00 p.m. Who the opponent will be is yet to be determined.
Luther wrapped up its trip to Louisville, Kentucky defeating Johns Hopkins University (MD) by a final of 25-14. This was an extra match at the NWCA National Duals for both team.
The Norse won seven of 10 matches and picked up bonus points from Connor Murphy (125) and Keenan Feldpausch (285). Murphy got things started with a major decision (11-3) and Feldpausch ended the match with a fall (2:26).
In the middle of the match, Michael Petersen (157), Michael Suarez (165), Austin Hansen (174) and Ira Kuehn (184) all recorded decisions.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 7-4.
NUWAY College Open
A number of Norse wrestled in the NUWAY College Open that was being held simultaneously with the national duals. Three Norse placed led by Logan Kennedy (285) who finished fifth. Kennedy posted a record of 5-1 that included four falls. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket posting falls over Adam Lucast of UW-Eau Claire (1:33) and Myles Ruffin, unattached from Indiana Tech (6:56). He lost to Seth Bloor of Wheeling Jesuit (3-2). He finished fifth thanks to falls over Joshua Isaac of Missouri Valley (0:38) and Vinne Scaletta of McKendree University (1:31) and then defeated Jonathan Morris of Missouri Valley (2-1).
Up next, Luther will travel to Waverly, Iowa and top-ranked Wartburg College on Thursday, Jan. 10. This American Rivers Conference match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
