Luther hosted the 15-team Gator 'Boots' Duals at McGavock High School, Nashville, Tenn. The Norse wrestling well going 4-0 on the day and improved to 4-2 overall. As a team, Luther recorded a combined individual match record of 31-9 and recorded bonus points in 20 of the 40 matches.
Luther kicked-off the day with a 45-3 victory over Lakeland University (WI). The Norse posted bonus points in six matches. Connor Murphy (125) earned a forfeit; Tyler Menegay (133) recorded a fall at 2:35; Gilbert Valadez (149) recorded a fall at 3:41; Jamal Vaughns (174) won by tech fall (16-0, 2:04); Hunter Weaver won by fall at 4:06; and Keenan Feldpausch (285) won by fall at 2:48.
Luther defeated Huntingdon College (Ala.) 34-11 in match number two. Connor Murphy (125) and Hunter Weaver (197) recorded falls at 1:13 and 6:37 respectively. Jamal Vaughns (174) also added bonus points with a tech fall (16-0) at 2:12. Izzac Suarez (157) and Ira Kuehn (184) both recorded major decision victories.
Back-to-back falls by Billy Poray (165) and Jamal Vaughns (174) propelled Luther to a 31-9 victory over UW-Oshkosh. With Luther holding a 12-6 lead at the midway point, Poray pinned Oscar Ramos at 2:19. Vaughns followed with a pin of Husam Alabed at 1:29. Two matches later, Hunter Weaver (197) posted a 12-3 major decision over Jordan Lemcke.
Luther wrapped up a long day of wrestling defeating University of Ozarks 36-8. Bonus points were recorded by Gilbert Valadez (149), Izzac Suarez (157), Billy Poray (165), Jamal Vaughns (174) and Ira Kuehn.
Valadez won by major decision (10-1) over Ny 'Trell Dean; Suarez won by fall at 6:50 over Russel Miller; Poray posted a (15-0, 5:19) tech fall over Tracey Eitel; Vaughns won by fall over Jacob Sherril at 0:57; and Ira Kuehn won by forfeit.
Luther will be off until Sauturday, Jan. 6 when it will face UW-Stevens Point and Cornell College (IA) in Stevens Point, Wis. The double-dual will begin at Noon.
