In a battle between nationally ranked teams, No. 13 Luther defeated No. 6 UW-La Crosse in front of the home crowd 22-14. The loss was the first of the season for the Eagles.
Trailing 10-6 after four matches, the Norse posted four straight victories and held a 19-10 advantage heading into the 197 match. During this stretch, Reed Van Anrooy (157) made his Luther debut posting an 11-3 major decision. Blake Letney (165) followed with a 7-3 victory over nationally ranked No. 6 Tyler Schneider. Justin Kreiter (174) won a hard fought 8-6 decision and No. 3 Jayden DeVilbiss (184) improved to 7-0 with a 9-2 victory. Conner Herman (285) sealed the deal with a 3-1 overtime victory.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 2-1, while UW-La Crosse is now 5-1.
Luther will travel to the UNI Open this Saturday. Action is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
