The Luther men's tennis team is scheduled to play five matches during its annual spring trip to Orlando, Florida. All five matches will be played at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus.
Recaps and match statistics will be published when available throughout the week. All times are eastern standard time.
Thursday, March 21 - Stevens Institute of Technology (NJ) 6, Luther 3
Luther had its four-match win streak snapped tonight by Stevens Institute of Technology. The Ducks defeated the Norse by a final of 6-3. Luther is now 4-2 overall. This was the first of five matches scheduled during the annual spring trip to Orlando, Florida.
Jake Smith posted the lone singles win at No. 6. He defeated Eloi Pradier in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). Morton at No. 3 and Murman at No. 4 were both defeated in three set battles.
Friday, March 22 - Luther 8, Calvin College (MI) 1
Luther improved to 5-2 thanks to an 8-1 victory over Calvin College this evening. The Norse swept doubles play and then proceeded to win five of six singles matches in straight sets.
Saturday, March 23 - Luther 6, Hope College (MI) 3
Luther defeated Hope College this morning by a final of 6-3. The win gives Luther an overall record of 6-2.
After jumping out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, the two teams battled in singles where four of six matches were decided in three sets. Luther won three of the four matches to secure the win. Coe Schneider at No. 1 defeated Mark Vander Stoep (2-6, 6-3, 10-5). Brook Norwood at No. 5 posted a (6-2, 5-7, 10-7) win at No. 5 over Alec Berrodin, and Jake Smith defeated Justin Folkert at No. 6 (6-7, (8-10), 7-6 (8-6), 10-7.
Tuesday, March 26 - Luther 5, Whitworth University (WA) 4
Trailing 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play, Luther took four of six singles matches, to secure a 5-4 come-from-behind victory.
Nate Parsons and Jake Smith posted the lone victory in doubles. The duo defeated Jake Bethards and Nick Hughes (8-1) at No. 2.
All for singles victories were in straight sets. Coe Schneider at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4), Grant Morton at No. 2 (6-2, 6-4), Nate Parson at No. 3 (6-0, retired) and Ryan Ortega at No. 6 (6-2, 6-3).
Tuesday, March 26 - Luther 9, Huntingdon (AL) 0
Luther completed its spring trip schedule with a 9-0 victory over Huntingdon this afternoon. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Norse who are now 8-2 overall.
Luther dropped just six games in singles action and only five in doubles play.
