Luther improved to 7-2 after defeating regionally ranked No. 14 Grinnell College tonight in Orlando, Florida. Luther held a 2-1 advantage following doubles play and then split the six singles matches, five that were decided in three sets.
All three doubles matches were decided by a 9-8 final. Kyle Appel and Trent Schneider were defeated by Tommy Pitcher and Cole Miller at No. 1. Anders Jensen and Nate Parsons defeated Sam Stickels and Zach Lane at No. 2. Kenny Goins and Jake Smith defeated Will Hamilton and Ben Cobin at No. 3.
Posting three-set victories for the Norse in singles included Jensen at No. 4 (3-6, 6-3, 10-3), Brian Murman at No. 5 (5-7, 6-3, 10-5), and Sam Buffington at No. 6 (6-1, 3-6, 10-7).
Appel was defeated in three-sets at No. 1 (6-4, 4-6, 10-4) and Parson lost in three sets at No. 3 (2-6, 7-5, 10-8).
Luther is schedule to play one match tomorrow against Hamilton College (NY). Start time is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. EST.
