Luther improved to 5-0 thanks to a 5-4 victory over St. Scholastica this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center, White Bear Lake, Minn. The 5-4 victory was the third for the Norse this season.
Luther held a 2-1 advantage at the end of doubles play and proceeded to split with St. Scholastica in singles action.
In singles, Kyle Appel at No. 1, Murman at No. 5 and Sam Buffington at No. 6, all won in straight sets. Appel defeated Serhii Tykhonenko (6-2, 6-4) to improve to 7-2 for the season. Murman defeated Bryce Gadke (6-2, 6-1) and is now 5-3. Buffington secured the win for the Norse with a (6-1, 6-2) win over Trace Combs. The win gives Buffington a season mark of 4-2.
Luther returns to action on Sunday when it will face UW-La Crosse at the Winona Tennis Center, Winona, Minn., at 2:30 p.m.
