Luther captured the team title of its own two-day invitational posting a point total of 808. St. Ambrose University was second with 676, followed by UW-La Crosse with 532.5 and Iowa Lakes Community College with 354.5.
Highlighting the Norse efforts was a pool record by Matt Staver in the 1650 freestyle. Staver set a new mark of (16:51.52), smashing the old record of (17:39.49) established by David Carius of Luther on November 16, 2013.
Pool records were also set by UWL in the 400 medley relay (3:34.14). UWL broke its own Luther pool record of (3:38.58) set November 19, 2016.
The Eagles also established a new mark in the 400 freestyle relay (3:10.51), breaking their own Luther pool record of (3:14.44) also set November 19, 2016.
Lucas Smith of Iowa Lakes Community College set new records in the 200 butterfly (1:57.19) and 400 IM (4:12.78). Staver of Luther held the old record in the 200 fly (2:01.82) set November 19, 2016. Michael Streyle of Luther held the old record in the 400 IM (4:21.34) set November 7, 2015.
Jacob Burchfield of UWL set a new record in the 50 freestyle (:21.08), breaking the old time of (:21.69) set by Ryan Jessen of UWL November 21, 2015.
Marley Kaiser of UWL set a new record in the 200 breaststroke (1:43.89). His time was also an A-Cut for the NCAA III National Championships. The old pool record was 2:17.20 set November 19, 2016 by Quinton Maydaniuk of UWL.
