No. 24 Luther traveled to Minneapolis, Minn., to face No. 9 Augsburg University tonight at Edor Nelson Field. This was the third match in a row for the Norse against a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) school. The Norse returned home with a 2-1 victory and improved to 3-1-1. The loss was the first of the year for the Auggies who are now 4-1-1.
Luther scored both of its goals in the first half. Ben Keller found the back of the net early in the contest at 2:40 assisted by Marc-Arthur Shapiro (1). Keller's goal was his fourth of the season. Ben Sizelove scored what proved to be the game winner at 39:25, giving the Norse a 2-0 advantage. The goal was his first of the year. He was assisted by Keller who increased his season point total to nine.
With his three points recorded tonight, Keller moved in the 10th slot all-time for career points with 81. During his career he has scored 31 goals and dished out 19 assists. His 31 goals is two shy of reaching the top-10 in this category.
The Auggies Hsinku Lay wiped the goose egg off the board in the 72nd minute, getting the lone shot of the evening past Norse goal keeper Carson Davenport. Lay was assisted by Nick Zuchowski. Davenport ended the match with four saves.
Both teams tallied nine shots and Augsburg had a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Luther returns home this Sunday, Sept. 15 and will host the College of St. Scholastica at 3:00 p.m.
