No. 13 Luther was defeated by No. 3 University of Chicago 1-0 in overtime this afternoon in Chicago, Ill. The victory sends the Maroons to the NCAA III Men's Soccer National Tournament Final Four that will be held at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG) Soccer Stadium, Nov. 30-Dec. 1 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Maroons will be making their second straight appearance in the championship weekend.
Luther, who advanced to the quarterfinals for a third time in school history (1996, 2001, 2018) was attempting to make its first trip to the final four.
Chicago's leading scorer Max Lopez drove in the game winner in the lower left hand corner of the net at 97:25 assisted by Dayo Adeosun. The goal was his 16th of the year and seventh game winner.
The Maroons out shot the Norse 30-5 placing 12 shots on goal. Carson Davenport kept the Norse in the match stopping a career high eight shots. He was also helped by a solid defensive line that was credited with three team blocks.
Luther ends its season with an overall record of 19-4-1, the best single season record under the direction of 11th year Head Coach Chris Garcia-Prats.
