Luther wrapped up its non-conference schedule with an impressive 2-0 victory over Macalester College. The win gives the Norse an overall record of 11-3-1 that includes an 8-2 record in non-conference matches. Macalester fell to 8-4-2.
Harry Merz scored what proved to be the game winner early in the match at 9:46. Merz scored his first goal of the season off a blocked shot by a Macalester defender, that fell free in front of the goal. Ben Keller was credited with the assist.
Late in the first half, Rafael Broseghini ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the Scots net, from just inside 18-yards out. His insurance goal was his third of the season.
Defensively, Carson Davenport was credited with the shut out, turning away three shots on goal. The Norse defensive line held Macalester to eight shots for the evening.
Luther has three matches remaining all against American Rivers Conference opponents. The first will be a home match against the Kohawks of Coe College on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
