An unassisted goal by Brunno Colon from 30 yards out at 93:46, secured a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory over Simpson College tonight in Indianola.
This match was scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., but did not kick-off until 8:46 p.m., due to a one hour and 13 minute lightning delay in the women's match.
Twenty four minutes into the first period, Simpson's Garrett Pochop scored his 14th goal of the year on a penalty kick, giving the Storm an early 1-0 lead.
With time running out, Tyler Pieper leveled the match with a header off a corner kick from Colon (3) that found the back of the net at 85:31. Pieper's goal was his fourth of the year.
Luther outshot Simpson 22-7 and placed 10 shots on goal. Norse goalkeeper Carson Davenport faced five shots on goal, turning away four.
The win keeps Luther in the hunt for the regular season title. The Norse are now one of three teams with just one loss in league play. Luther is 3-1 in the IIAC, 7-4-2 overall. The loss was the first for Simpson. The Storm are now 4-1 in the IIAC, 13-1-1 overall.
Friday night, Oct. 13, Luther returns to IIAC action and hosts Wartburg College (3-1-1) in another key match for the league lead. Start time for this match is slated for 7:30 p.m.
