The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College junior goalkeeper Carson Davenport (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019. This is the second time of his career he has been so honored.
Davenport helped lead Luther to the A-R-C Tournament championship posting a pair of wins in front of the nets. The Norse defeated No. 1 seed Central College in the semifinals 3-0 in Pella, Iowa and followed that with a 2-1 victory over No. 2 seed Loras College in the championship match held in Dubuque, Iowa. He turned away three shots on goal in both matches. Luther’s A-R-C Tournament title marks the ninth tournament trophy for the Norse.
Entering the NCAA III Men's Soccer Tournament, Davenport has posted a goals-against-average of 1.04, allowing 17 goals in 1467 minutes of play. He is 8-3-0 with two shut outs.
As the league’s automatic qualifier, Luther will be making its 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Norse will host first and second round matches on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16-17. Luther will face Principia College in the first round on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
