The American Rivers Conference has announced the 22-member all-conference team and major award winners. Luther College had a league best six players named all-conference.
This group included seniors Colin Hughes (Oregon, Wis.), Ben Keller (Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake) Harry Merz (Wellington, New Zealand); junior Marc-Arthur Shapiro (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels); sophomore Marcos Vila (Madrid, Spain); and freshman Will Overberg (Ankeny, Iowa/Centennial). Keller is earning his third all-conference honor, while Merz is being recognized for the second time, and also received honorable mention honors in 2017.
Hughes, a midfielder, tallied three goals and dealt three assists during league play posting a total of nine points. His point total stands ninth in the conference. Keller finished the A-R-C schedule tied for second in total points with 14. His six assists were tops in the league and his four goals tied for fourth. Merz, a three-year starter as a defender, helped the Norse back line record the third best goals-against average (.750) and tie for second in goals allowed (6).
Shapiro, a third-year midfielder, scored three goals and added two assists and finished tenth in the league with eight points. Vila found the back of the net four times in eight conference matches. He added two assists for a total of 10 points and tie for fifth in the conference. Overberg totaled the fourth highest point total during conference play with 11, thanks to four goals and three assists.
Luther finished the A-R-C schedule with a mark of 5-3, 14-4-1. The Norse have been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Top-25 National Poll the entire year.
