Luther Soccer Coaching Staff Named United Soccer Coaches North Region Coaching Staff of the Year

United Soccer Coaches announced on Friday, Nov. 30, the 2018 Regional Staff of the Year winners for NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III men’s soccer programs. The Luther College coaching staff was named the Division III North Region Staff of the Year.

Each of the 24 coaching staffs receiving Regional Staff of the Year honors will be recognized at the College Coaches Awards Reception on Jan. 10, 2019 at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago.

In addition, the Regional Staff of the Year recipients will be placed on the United Soccer Coaches ballot for National Staff of the Year consideration within their respective NCAA division. The ballot will also include the addition of coaching staffs from any schools that advance to the semifinals of their NCAA Championship.

Head Coach Chris Garcia-Prats and his staff led the Norse to their best overall season record (19-4-1) during his 11 years at the helm of the program. His career record is now 137-66-23.

The Norse qualified for the NCAA III National Tournament, for the ninth time in school history, after capturing the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament championship, for the eighth time in school history and second in the past three years.

Luther advanced to the quarterfinals of the national tournament for the first time in Garcia-Prats tenure, before being eliminated by the University of Chicago 1-0 in overtime.  Luther’s quarterfinal appearance was the third in school history (1996, 2001, 2018).

Earlier this month, the Luther coaching staff was named the American Rivers Conference Coaching Staff of the Year
