The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) has announced that Luther senior defender Bernardo Marotti has been named Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 22. Marotti shared the honor with Loras College senior goalkeeper Jacob Peterson.
Marotti, who has made 40 consecutive starts, was part of a defensive line that allowed a total of nine shots during Luther's two matches this past week. The Norse clinched at least a share of the regular season Iowa Conference title thanks to victories over Coe College (5-1) and Central College (3-2). Two of the three goals the Norse allowed were by penalty kick. The Norse defense ranks No.2 in the conference with a .994 goals-against-average per game.
Luther wraps up the regular season schedule at University of Dubuque on Tueday, Oct. 24. A win or a tie by the Norse will secure the outright title and the No. 1 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament.
