The Iowa Intercollegiate Conference (IIAC) has announced that Luther junior Ben Grotnes and sophomore Joe Fewer have been named the Co-Performers of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 30.
Grotnes and Fewer are tied atop the leader board after the first round of the Iowa Conference Tournament held this past weekend at Finkbine Golf Course, Iowa City, Iowa.
Cold, wet and miserable conditions ended the first weekend of play that was scheduled to be 36-holes, but was changed to 27 and then finally 18 holes. Grotnes and Fewer both shot four over par 76 and are one stroke ahead of team mate Andrew Betts with a 77. There are 45 golfers in the field.
Luther sits atop the leader board carding a 309. Nebraska Wesleyan is in second at 320, while Central and Loras are tied for third at 330.
Fewer and Grotnes are leading the Norse this season posting stroke averages of 76.8 and 77.9 respectively.
The IIAC Championship resumes on Friday, May 5 at Indianola Country Club in Indianola. The initial format for the second weekend is two 18-hole rounds with the first to be played Friday and the Second on Saturday. Due to the weather and cancellation of round two during the first weekend of play the format for next weekend may be altered.
