Luther Football Picked Eighth in American Rivers Preseason Coaches' Poll

The American Rivers Conference has announced the 2019 Preseason Coaches' Poll and Luther College has been picked to finish eighth. Wartburg College was picked to finish first, followed by Central College and the University of Dubuque that finished tied for second.

Caleb Padilla, who begins his second year as head coach, returns 31 letter winners that includes six starters on offense and seven on defense. The Norse will be young as 75% of the squad will be sophomores and freshmen.

Senior quarterback Ian Kuykendall (Riverview, Fla./East Bay) will once again call the signals for the Norse Multiple Option offensive attack. Kuykendall produced 2287 yards of total offense, rushing for 829 yards and six touchdowns, and throwing for 1458 yards and nine touchdowns.

Three of the four top tacklers from a year ago return. This list includes senior linebacker Patrick Beatty (Spring Hill, Fla./Bishop McLaughlin), and junior linebackers Eythan Blair (Swea City, Iowa/North Union) and Jeremy Whalen (Dawsonville, Ga./Dawson County). Beatty led this three some with 96 tackles, followed by Blair with 94 and Whalen with 72.

Luther begins the 2019 campaign at Whittier College (CA) on Sept. 7. The Norse will wrap up their non-conference schedule at home against St. Olaf College on Sept. 14. Kick-off for this contest is slated for 2:00 p.m.
