Caleb Padilla, Luther College head football coach, has announced the hiring of Billy Hickman as offensive coordinator.
Hickman joins the Luther coaching staff from Tabor College, an NAIA affiliate located in Hillsboro, Kansas, where he has been the Offensive Coordinator since 2010. Last year, he was named NAIA American Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year and in 2012 the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Assistant Coach of the Year.
During his tenure, the Bluejays offensive unit helped lead Tabor to three consecutive KCAC championships (2015-17), and established 39 team and individual records, including the KCAC single season rushing record of 4,058 yards set in 2013.
Hickman, who played on the offensive line and graduated from Tabor in 2008, began his coaching career at Colorado School of Mines as the assistant offensive line and strength and conditioning coach (2008-09), before joining the Tabor football staff.
“I am very excited to join the football program at Luther,” commented Hickman. “This feels like such an exciting time to be involved in athletics at Luther College. I want to thank Director of Athletics Renae Hartl and Coach Padilla for this opportunity. My family and I look forward to being a part of the community in Decorah.”
“Billy Hickman was my number one choice for this position,” stated coach Padilla. “To get someone with his experience and energy will be a huge addition to the staff. Billy and I worked together at Colorado School of Mines and I always loved his creativity drive, and personality. He is highly qualified for the job given his background with option football. Billy and his wife Ashley are going to be great additions to the Luther football program and the Decorah community. I look forward to working with Billy in our next chapter together."
It was also announced that Raven Battle, who has been the recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach, will be adding the title of Defensive Coordinator and will be working closely with Coach Padilla. Caleb Barnes will remain the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebacker Coach.
