Caleb Padilla

Head Coach

  • 2019 will be coach Padilla's second year as head coach
  • His first three years with the Norse football program he served as defensive coordinator
  • Last year he had two players named first-team all-conference and one on the second-team
  • He also had defensive lineman Michael Noll named third-team all-West Region
  • Joined the Norse in 2015 after serving for two years as defensive coordinator at NCAA II Notre Dame College, South Euclid, Ohio
  • While at Notre Dame College his defensive unit had the second biggest turnaround in the NCAA II improving scoring defense by 13 points per game. His defensive unit also helped lead the school to its first winning season in school history
  • Served as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Albion College (Mich.) (2010-12) where the defense reduced its rushing yards per game by 90 and lowered it scoring defense to 19 points a game
  • Began his collegiate coaching career as the outside linebackers coach at Colorado School of Mines (2008-09)
  • Spent two seasons as the varsity defensive backs coach and junior varsity defensive coordinator at Rangeview High School, Aurora, Colo.
  • Played on four conference championship football teams while at Winona State University (Minn.) from 2001-05

Billy Hickman

Offensive Coordinator

  • 2019 will be coach Hickman's second as Offensive Coordinator
  • Joined the Norse after serving as offensive coordinator at NAIA Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kansas (2010-17)
  • He was named NAIA American Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year and in 2017 and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012
  • During his tenure, the Bluejays offensive unit helped lead Tabor to three consecutive KCAC championships (2015-17), and established 39 team and individual records, including the KCAC single season rushing record of 4,058 yards set in 2013
  • Began his collegiate coaching career as the assistant offensive line coach at Colorado School of Mines (2008-09)
  • Hometown: Bakersfield, California

Raven Battle

Defensive Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator/Defensive Line

  • 2001 graduate of Idaho State University
  • Prior to joining Luther staff he coached at Edinbor University of Pennsylvania (2013-16), University of Minnesota-Morris (2005-13), Western Washington University (2003-05) and at Idaho State University (2001-03)
  • Four-year letter winner at Idaho State where he earned second team all-Big Sky Conference honors at linebacker
  • Wife, Nikki; children, Olivia, Raven Jr., Tori and Trenton
  • Hometown: Miami, Florida

Ryan Crabel

Offensive Line

  • 2019 will be Ryan's second year with the Norse coaching staff and first as Offensive Line Coach
  • 2015 graduate of Coe College where he was a three-year letter winner as an offensive lineman
  • Joined Norse staff after coaching two years at Millikin University (2016-17) where he helped the Big Blue to the No. 1 passing offense in the CCIW
  • Mentored two all-CCIW wider receivers during his tenure
  • Served as Strength and Conditioning Coach at Byron High School (IL) during their summer off-season program (2013-16)
  • Hometown: Byron, Illinois

Ray Kizer

Assistant Coach - Corner Backs

  • Joined the Norse after serving as the defensive coach (2012-14) and defense position coach (2001-17) at Colony High School, Palmer Alaska

Casey Bouska

Assistant Coach - Running Backs

    • 2019 will be Coach Bouska's second year as an assistant coach
    • 2007 graduate of Luther College
    • 2017 masters degree from Morningside University in education
    • He is a middle school special education teacher for the Decorah School District
    • Began his college football coaching career at Aurora University (2013-14)
    • Head football coach at Durant High School (2010-12) and led team to Iowa 2A Playoffs
    • Assistant coach at West Branch High School (2008-09)
    • While at Luther he was a three-year starter and second team all-conference offensive lineman
    • Hometown: Ridgeway, Iowa
    • Wife, Laurie - son Bennett, daughter Emma

    Dan Marlow

    Defensive Analyst

      • Will assist the defensive coaches with film breakdown and opponent analysis
      • 1988 graduate of Luther College
      • He is the Co-Director of the Luther College Career Center
      • Served as Luther Football’s defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator from 1999-2012
      • He also coached football at Northern Illinois University, UNLV, and Oregon State University
      • While at Luther he was a four year letter winner, two-time all-Iowa conference performer and Academic All American award winner as an offensive lineman
      • He was inducted into the Luther Athletic Hall of Fame - 1998
      • Wife: Chivonne, Children: Carley and Jacob
      • Hometown: Lone Rock, Iowa
