Steve Pasche

Head Coach

  • 1997 graduate of St. John's University - B.A
  • 1999 graduate of University of Iowa - M.S. Exercise Physiology
  • The 2019 campaign will be Steve's 15th year as Head Coach
  • Named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010
  • Has led the Norse to five Iowa Conference Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010
  • Has also led the Norse to the NCAA III National Championships placing 6th in 2006, 8th in 2007, 26th in 2010, 24th in 2012, and 14th in 2013
  • Also serves as assistant track and field coach coaching the distant runners
  • Prior to taking over the Norse programs Steve spent two years as an assistant at Williams College (MA), where the women's team won the national championship in 2004 and the men's team finished in the top-10 in 2003 and 2004
  • From 2000-2002 he was the Head Men's Coach of cross country at Macalester College (MN)
  • While at St. John's University (MN) he ran both cross country and track and earned all-conference honors in track in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs

Kirk Neubauer

Assistant Coach

  • 2019 will be Kirk's third year as an assistant coach
  • 1976 graduate of Luther College
  • Luther's Head Coach of women's cross country - 1987-89
  • Led Norse to IIAC title in 1988 and was named Coach of the Year
  • Luther's Head Coach of women's track and field - 1987-88
  • Luther's Head Coach of men's track and field during which time Norse won seven league titles - 1980-1986
  • Named Iowa Conference Track Coach of the Year four times
  • While at Luther he was a four-year letter winner in cross country and track
  • Four-year place winner in the 880 yard run including a conference title as a senior
  • Three-year place winner in the Mile relay including two conference titles
  • NCAA National Meet qualifier as a member of the Mile Relay 1975
  • Still holds the school record in the 1000 yard run (2:16.1) set in 1974

Duncan McLean

Assistant Coach

    • 2019 will be Duncan's second year as an assistant coach
    • He has degrees in Exercise Science (Northern Michigan University), Human Performance and Physical Therapy (UW-La Crosse)
    • He was an assistant for boy's cross country and distance track athletes at Dowling Catholic High School for Head Coach Tim Ives (2013-17)
    • Dowling Catholic captured Iowa 4A cross country championships (2015, 2016) and Roy Griak Invitational title (2015)
    • Head Coach of Northern Michigan University Nordic Ski Team and led them to a National Collegiate Ski Association team relay title (1983)
    • He was a member of the U.S. Nordic Ski Team (1980-83); competed in six U.S. National Ski Championships, one Olympic Trial, five overseas Worldloppet races, and 37 (and counting) American Birkebeiners
    • 1980 U.S. National Nordic Ski Championship overall champion
    • Winner of first two Korteloppets; 1976 American Birkebeiner Citizen champion and 1980 American Birkebeiner top American
    • He continues to promote participation in quieter sports as he has for years in clinics, presentations and events throughout the Midwest
