Carleton College hosted the 2017 Running of the Cows Invitational this morning in Northfield, Minn. This was a preview of the NCAA III Central Regional, the qualifying race for the NCAA III National Championships, that Carleton will be hosting Nov. 11.
Carthage College won the team title with 66 points. Cornell College (IA), ranked No. 7 in the Central Region, was second with 76, followed by Luther with 119.
The Norse finished ahead of Central Region ranked teams No. 6 Grinnell College, No. 10 University of St. Thomas and host No. 4 Carleton that finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Leading the Luther charge this morning was Collin Kern who placed 11th from the field of 179 runners with a time of 26:35. He was followed by Patrick Finnegan (17th - 26:42), Bryce Hefty (28th - 27:00), Hunter Prueger (30th - 27:03) and Will Simonson (33rd - 27:05). Isiah Herout (37th - 27:09) and Luke Lumbar (41st - 27:16) completed the top-seven.
Luther will be off for two weeks. The Norse will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they will compete in the UW-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational. This race is held at the Ettrick Golf Course, Etrrick, Wis. Race time is 11:30 a.m.
