It was the Iowa Conference opener tonight and Luther was defeated by Central 86-82 in the Regents Center.
Central held a 46-40 advantage at halftime. In the second half, the Norse outscored the Dutch 26-20 in the first 10 minutes and led 66-62. Central put togehter an 11-4 run in the next three minutes and never trailed the rest of the way. The Dutch led by as many as five three times in the final three minutes of action. Luther battled back to with-in two (83-81), capped off by a three-point bucket by Rahul Bagga with 29 seconds remaining. The Dutch secured the win with three free throws down the stretch.
Luther set a single game school record with 16 three-pointers. The old mark of 15 was set three times, the last against Central Feb. 14, 2015.
Jared Nicolaisen and Rahul Bagga led the offensive attack producing 26 and 22 points respectively. Nicolaisen was 9-of-13 from the field that included a 4-for-5 effort from behind the arch. Bagga was 8-of-14, 4-of-7 from three-point land en route to a career high.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 2-4, while Central is now 1-4.
Luther continues Iowa Conference action this Saturday, Dec. 2 when it travels to Loras College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
