Mark Franzen

Head Men's Basketball Coach

  • 1994 graduate of Wartburg College
  • Master's degree from University of Northern Iowa in 1998
  • The 2019-20 campaign will be his 14th season as head coach
  • Mark is also the Assistant Athletic Director for Resource Development
  • From 2010-14 his teams were the most successful in the Iowa Conference posting 46 regular season and tournament wins
  • Has led the Norse to Iowa Conference Championships in 2011 and 2013; the 2011 Iowa Conference Tournament title, and a trip to the NCAA III National Tournament for the first time since 1984
  • Spent two years as head coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University prior to taking over the Norse program
  • Formerly an assistant coach at Wartburg College from 1998-2004 and Coe College from 1996-98
  • While at Wartburg, the Knights posted four 20-win seasons, captured the 2001 Iowa Conference regular season championship and tournament title, advancing to the NCAA III National Tournament
  • A native of Denver, Iowa and a 1994 graduate of Wartburg College, he was a member of the Knights 1992-93 Iowa Conference championship team that qualified for the NCAA III National Tournament

John Androus

Assistant Coach

  • 2019-20 will be his second season as an assistant coach
  • 2014 Graduate of Luther College
  • Prior to returning to Luther he was the top assistant at Cornell College (IA) - 2017-18
  • He was also an assistant coach at Mount Mercy University (IA) - 2015-17
  • While at Luther he played on Iowa Conference championship teams in 2011 and 2013
  • Also played on National Tournament Team in 2011
  • He was a three-time all-conference honoree for the Norse
  • He was named the Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Year - 2013
  • He is a member of the 1,000-point club (1198), ranks ninth all-time for rebounds (687) and seventh all-time for assists (224)

    • 2019 graduate of Luther College
    • Four-year starter for the Norse
    • Score 1,040 points during his career
    • Hometown: New Hampton, Iowa
