Luther and Hamline completed their four-game series today at Adam LaRoche Stadium in Fort Scott, Kansas. The Norse won game one 2-1 and were defeated by the Pipers 4-3.
Game One Recap:
Tommy Gleason drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded. Jake Vogt reached on an error, stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. The Pipers chose to intentionally walk both Joe McKibben and Derek McCready that loaded the bases, setting up the Gleason game winner.
Nate Loch was credited with the victory. Loch pitched the final three frames and retired all nine batters he faced.
Game Two Recap:
A two-run sixth by the Pipers proved to the be the difference in game two. With the game tied 2-2, the Pipers scored two runs on two hits and led 4-2. Luther added a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Tyler Boesel got the start and went 3 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on two hits, walked four and struck out three. Ryan Manternach was credited with the loss. Manterncah threw 4 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 3-1. The Norse are scheduled to play a three-game series at Washington-St. Louis, Friday and Saturday, March 9-10. Friday's twin bill (2x9) and Saturday's game (1x9) will both start at Noon.
