Game 1: No. 3 seed Luther College advanced to the second round of the double elimination American Rivers Conference Tournament by defeating No. 6 Loras College 11-1 in seven innings. The Norse tallied nine hits and scored one run in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh. The Duhawks lone run came in the top of the fourth.
Jake Vogt, Jake Halverson and Joe McKibben all drove in two runs. McKibben hit a two-run blast over the right field fence in the third. He finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate. Vogt drove in a run in the second with a sac fly to right and a run in the fourth on a fielder's choice. Halverson, who was 2-for-4, produced his rbi with a single in the fourth and a double in the sixth. Trent Athmann also had a multiple hit game going 2-for-2 and drove in a run in the first with a sac fly to center field.
Joey Cardamon improved to 6-5 going the distance on the mound. Cardamon spread six hits, allowed one earned run and struck out two. Cardamon got some help with some solid defense as the Norse turned three double plays and committed just one error.
Luther will now play No. 2 Buena Vista University this afternoon with a start time scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Game 2: No. 2 Buena Vista University defeated Luther 1-0 in a pitchers dual this afternoon. Buena Vista's Egan Bonde tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings allowing four hits and striking out five.
Norse starter Colin Coffey spread eight hits and struckout eight but gave up a solo home run in the fourth by the Beavers Nick Henrichs.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 23-19, while Buena Vista improved to 23-17.
Luther will play at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night. Luther's opponent will be determined by the outcome of the 4:00 p.m. game between the University of Dubuque and Central. The loser of this game will be eliminated from the tournament.
Game 3: Luther was eliminated from the A-R-C Tournament tonight as it was defeated by the University of Dubuque 3-1. The Norse scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly to left field by Trent Athmann. Dubuque's Kaellen Mitchell hit a double to the left-center field gap that scored two to put the Spartans up by the final score.
John Colucci III was credited with the loss on the mound. Colucci allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out three.
The Spartans Tyler Carlson got the complete game victory, spreading five hits, walking one and striking out five.
Luther ends its season with a record of 23-20.
