Luther and Nebraska Wesleyan University wrapped up the three-game series this afternoon in Lincoln. The double headers turned into a slug fest, as the two teams combined for 66 hits and 65 runs. Seventeen pitchers made an appearance on the mound, 10 by the Norse pitching staff and seven by the Prairie Wolves.

Luther won game one 14-11, producing its 14 runs on 14 hits. NWU tallied 13 hits and had scored only three runs before it broke loose for eight in the bottom of the ninth. Luther put a crooked number on the scoreboard in all but four frames.

Kelby Johnson and Luke Plunkett both produced four rbi. Johnson was 2-for-5 and Plunkett was 3-for-5. Multiple hits were also recorded by Trent Athmann who was 2-for-4 and Joe McKibben who was 2-for-5.

Jake Vogt broke his own single season stolen base record of 18, with a swipe of third in the sixth, that gives him 19 for the year. 

Joey Cardamon (5-3) was credited with the win. Cardamon threw seven innings, allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out 11.

The Prairie Wolves set a single game school record defeating the Norse 30-10 in seven innings in game two. NWU pounded out 26 hits and scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first, seven in the third, two in the fourth, six in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Luther started the game putting up five runs in the first and followed with two in the third and three in the fourth. Bryce Hingst and Owen Vander Linden both drove in three runs. Hingst was 2-for-3 and Vander Linden was 3-for-4 that included a two-run home run in the first. Jake Halverson and Plunkett also had multiple hits, with Halverson producing three and Plunkett two. 

Box Score

The split gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 11-5, 18-14 overall. NWU is now 7-9 in the A-R-C, 9-19 overall. 

Luther travels to league leading Coe College on Tuesday, April 23. This double header will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Daniels Park - Bill Quinby Field in Cedar Rapids.
