Luther swept Loras College this afternoon in Dubuque 7-6, 8-3 and won the three-game series 2-1. The Norse exploded for 25 hits today, 13 in game one and 12 in the nightcap.
In game one, Bryce Hingst, who was 3-for-5 with four RBI, drove in what proved to be the game winning runs in the top of the eighth. Hingst doubled to left field that scored that scored Jake Halverson and Joe Silversmith. Mitch Bruggers drove in three runs, all in the third on a double to right-center field. Jake Vogt, Jon Opdahl and Halverson all had multiple hits.
Ryan LaPage was credited with the win in relief. LaPage pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed one run on three hits and walked two. Cody Reimer got the start and lasted three innings allowing five runs on eight hits. Joey Cardamon was credited with the save striking out two of the six batters he faced.
In game two, Opdahl drove in three of Luther's eight runs. Opdahl was 2-for-3 and scored once. Hingst continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-5 with one RBI. Reimer drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to center field in the fifth. Vogt and Halverson also tallied two hits.
Teddy Klingsporn improved to 7-1 on the hill. He pitched five innings, allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five. Colin Coffey, Eli Patrikus and Mitch Adams combined for four innings of work and allowed just one hits and struck out three.
The two wins gives Luther a league record of 15-9, 25-15 overall. The Norse finished in a tie for third place with Buena Vista University in the league standings.
Next week Luther will be playing in the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament. The annual tournament will be held May 11-13 at Veterans Memorial Stadium, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
