Luther improved to 13-8 in the Iowa Conference, defeating University of Dubuque this afternoon 10-5. The Norse tallied 14 hits and blew this game wide open scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Joe Silversmith, who was named the Iowa Conference Position Player of the Week yesterday, continued to swing a hot bat. Silversmith was 3-for-5 with a team best three RBI, that included a solo shot over the left field fence in the eighth.
Mitch Bruggers also had three hits and drove in two runs, while Joe Sullivan was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Luke Johnson, Jon Opdahl and Cody Reimer were also credited with one RBI.
Silversmith not only did a lot of damage at the plate, he also picked up his third win of the season on the mound. Silversmith threw six innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out three.
Eli Patrikus, Joey Cardamon and Teddy Klingsporn each threw one inning and combined for one run on four hits.
Luther has now won 12 of its last 15 games as is 23-14 overall. Dubuque entered the game in second place in the league standings and stays there but is now 16-5, 22-13.
Luther wraps up the Iowa Conference regular season schedule this weekend with a three-game series at Loras College. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday's double header will begin at Noon.
