Two seven run innings by Central College was the difference in today's Iowa Conference double header. The Dutch swept the Norse 8-2 (10) and 10-2 in the nightcap.
In game one, with the game tied 1-1 heading into the top of the 10th inning, Central scored seven runs on four hits. Luther also committed two errors that led to six unearned runs.
The Norse took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when lead-off hitter Jake Vogt scored from third on a wild pitch by Dutch starter Adam Carey. Vogt lead-off with a walk, advanced to second on a 4-3 ground out and then stole third.
Central's Noah Stochl tied the game with a solo shot over the left field fence in the seventh.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the fifth of game two, Central put seven runs on the board. The Dutch produced five hits and the Norse committed two errors. The Dutch added two more in the sixth.
Luther scored one in the first and third frames. Jon Opdahl drove in both of Luther's runs with RBI singles.
Luther fell to 3-5 in the Iowa Conference, 10-9 overall. Central improved to 2-3 in league play, 10-11 overall.
Luther will host Wartburg College this Friday and Saturday. Friday's nine inning game will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's twin bill (2x9) will begin at 1:00 p.m.
