Luther and Buena Vista wrapped up their three-game Iowa Conference series today in Tucson, Arizona. The Beavers won game one 5-1 and the Norse won the nightcap 6-4.
In game one, Buena Vista produced 10 hits and led the entire game. The Beavers scored one in the first, two in the third and one in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Luther's lone run was unearned and came in the top of the eighth. When Joe Sullivan reached base on an error at second base that scored Jake Vogt, who lead-off the inning with a single.
In game two, Luther scored all six of its runs in the final five innings, after falling behind 4-0 after three. Vogt and Cody Reimer both drove in two runs. Both players drove in a run in the fifth with back-to-back doubles. Vogt also drove in a run in the sixth with a single, as did Reimer in the ninth.
Teddy Klingsporn (2-0) picked up the win on the mound. Klingsporn pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out nine. Joe Silversmith struck out four of the nine batters he faced in the final 2 2/3 innings en route to the save.
The split gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 1-2, 8-6 overall. Buena Vista improved to 2-1 in league play, 9-7 overall.
Luther will begin its home schedule on Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1 when Coe College comes to town. Friday's nine inning game will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's double header will start at Noon.
