Luther wrapped up its three-game road trip to Washington-St. Louis this afternoon. The Norse won game one 9-2 and lost game two 7-5. Game two was called after eight innings due to darkness.
In game one, the Norse pounded out 16 hits and defeated the No. 20 Bears 9-2.
Jake Vogt led the team with three hits, going 3-for-5 at the plate. Jon Opdahl, Cody Reimer, Joe Silversmith and Max Uetz were all 2-for-5.
Both Opdahl and Reimer drove in three runs. Opdahl hit a two-run home run in the fifth and Reimer hit a two-run home run in the eighth.
Reimer pitched seven innings and was credited with the win. He did not allow a run, gave up five hits, walked five and struck out five.
In the nightcap, Wash U held a 5-2 lead after six innings. The Norse tied the game scoring three runs on six hits that included lead-off home run by Joey Sullivan. Wash U answered with two in the bottom of the seventh in what proved to be the final runs of the game. After eight complete, the game was called due to darkness.
Trent Athman, Opdahl and Sullivan all had multiple hit efforts. Athman was 3-for-4, while both Opdahl and Sullivan were 2-for-4.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 3-2. The Norse are scheduled to play next Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12, in Mauston, Wis. Luther will play a double header against Lawrence University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, Luther will face Northland College at 10:00 a.m. and then Finlandia at 1:00 p.m. The games will be played at Woodside Sports Complex.
