Luther traveled to Washington University-St. Louis and opened a three-game stand this afternoon at Kelly Field. The No. 20 Bears defeated the Norse 14-7.
Luther held a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning, when Wash U exploded for six runs on four hits. The Bears added three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth en route to their third win of the season.
Luther tallied 11 hits led by Jon Opdahl and Joe Silversmith who were credited with three and two hits respectively. Opdahl was 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Silversmith was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Silversmith gave the Norse a 2-0 lead in the first with a two-run home run over the left field fence. Bryce Hingst also drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly in the 5th and drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth.
Nate Beckman pitched four innings and was credited with the loss. Beckman allowed seven runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out four.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 2-1, while Wash U improved to 3-2.
These two teams will wrap up their three-game series with a double header Sunday. First game is slated to begin at Noon. Both games will be video streamed.
