Luther wrapped up its opening weekend splitting a twin bill with North Central (IL). The Norse won game one 10-5 and dropped the nightcap by the same score.
In game one, Luther scored 10 runs on 13 hits, scoring three runs in the first, fifth and seventh frames. Andy Briggs, Eric Pittman, Carlos Pineda and David Lowe all had multiple hit efforts. Briggs was 3-for-5 from the lead-off slot. Pittman and Matt Larson each drove in two runs.
Blake Peterson picked up his first win of the season. Peterson threw five complete, allowing four runs on five hits. Nate Whitham was credited with a save allowing one run on two hits in two innings of work.
Ryan Vijums and Dakotah Rostad led the Norse attack with two hits each. Vijums was credited with two RBI.
The split gives Luther an overall record of 3-1. The Norse will return to action in a couple of weeks when they will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for their annual spring trip March 23-29. The Norse are scheduled to play 10 games that includes four Iowa Conference games against Buena Vista University.
