Luther and Dubuque split the first two games of their four-game series. The Spartans won game one 2-0 and the Norse posted a 9-2 victory in the night cap.
In game one, Dubuque's Spencer Kuehn threw a one-hit shutout. Kuehn faced 21 batters, walked one and struck out seven.
The Spartans did all of their damage in the third, scoring both of their runs on four hits off Norse starter Alec Knop (1-4).
Matt Larson hit a three-run triple in the fifth to get things started for the Norse. Larson was one of four Norse who had two hits. The others were Eric Pittman, Zach Hendrikson, Aldon Severson and Andy Briggs. Briggs had two RBI, while Hendrikson, Austen Graham, Daniel Schoess and Davie Lowe each had one.
Alex Byom (5-0) allowed one run on five hits in six full innings of work. Nate Whitham (2) was credited with the save allowing one run on two hits.
The split gives Luther a league record of 5-9, 9-13 overall. Dubuque is now 5-11 in the IIAC, 7-17 overall.
These two teams will finish the weekend series tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
