American Rivers Conference Announces Scheduling Concepts For Fall Sports That Are Moving to the Spring Semester

From: President Jenifer K. Ward and Renae Rost Hartl, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

On August 11, the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced a postponement of competition for football, soccer, and volleyball to the spring as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Later this morning, the A-R-C will announce its scheduling concepts for spring competitions in these sports. The concepts below were approved by the Presidents Council of the A-R-C following a recommendation from the coaches and the athletic directors from the nine conference schools.

In the provisional plan, each member institution will play three conference football games, eight conference soccer games, and eight conference volleyball games. Members institutions may schedule additional conference and non-conference competitions at their discretion, including junior varsity contests. No more than five football games may be scheduled.

Based upon the recommendations of coaches and athletic directors, there will be no conference champion this year in football. Neither soccer nor volleyball will have a conference tournament, and the conference champions will be determined by the eight-game schedules.

Contest dates and opponents for football, soccer, and volleyball will be announced after spring academic calendars for the nine member institutions are finalized. Adjustments to all athletic schedules, even after they are announced, may be made in response to guidance on the COVID-19 pandemic provided by the NCAA and state and local officials.
