The 2019 NCAA III National Cross Country Championships were held today at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Spalding University and the Louisville Sports Commission hosted both the men's and women's national championships.
Ian Kelly, a freshman from Littleton, Colo., placed 137th from the field of 279 competitors that finished the 8K course. Kelly crossed the finish line with a time of 25:42.8.
Kelly capped off a year that he earned all-conference honors and all-region honors. At the American Rivers Conference championships, he placed 10th and at the Central Regional he placed 17th.
Vera Lindhorst, a senior from St. Cloud, Minn., placed 79th from the field of 277 competitors that finished the 6K course. Lindhorst crossed the finish line with a time of 22:41.2.
Lindhorst, who was making her first appearance at the national championships, finished her senior season earning all-conference and all-region honors. At the American Rivers Conference championships, she placed seventh and at the Central Regional she placed eighth.
Both athletes qualified for the national championship by being one of seven runners from the Central Region who were not on a qualifying team.
