The Luther College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the second annual Unity Bowl for Special Olympics on Saturday, Dec. 3. A total of 46 Special Olympic athletes from Decorah and Northeast Iowa, joined Luther College athletes for an afternoon of entertainment.
The afternoon began with the group cheering on the Luther women's basketball team as they played host to Coe College. During the halftime activities, all of the Special Olympians were welcomed to center court and each individual was introduced to the crowd. From the Regents Center the group moved to Oneota Lanes in Decorah for some bowling and pizza.
"The Unity Bowl is a really special opportunity to bring together Special Olympics athletes with Luther student-athletes for an afternoon of bowling and comradery," commented SAAC President senior Patrick Larson. "I think everyone who participated in this event was reminded of how the power of sport can unite so many people toward a common goal regardless of our differences."
