Renae Hartl, Luther College Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, has named Jeff Jones the college’s strength and conditioning coach. Jones will officially begin his duties at Luther on August 1.
A 2006 graduate of Central College, Jones joins the Luther athletic department after serving as the Head Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for football at Auburn University since December 2012.
“I am excited to be the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Luther College,” commented Jones. “My wife Rachael and I are originally from Iowa and we both went to Iowa Colleges. We love Iowa! Building relationships, coaching, teaching and developing student-athletes every single day on-and-off the field is what I am passionate about, and I am grateful for this opportunity to come back close to home and do just that. I really like the direction and vision for the Athletic Department by President Paula J. Carlson and Athletics Director Renae Hartl. I can’t wait to start training the Norse athletic teams.”
“We are very excited about Jeff becoming our new strength coach,” commented Head Football Coach Aaron Hafner. “He is coming from one of the top programs in college football, so he knows what it takes to develop and motivate student-athletes to reach their maximum potential. Jeff brings another exciting piece to our athletic department that helps us continue to make Luther College a special place to be a student-athlete.”
While at Central, Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science and health promotion and was a four-year member of Dutch football teams that captured two Iowa Conference titles and tallied a record of 28-13.
After graduating from Central, he was at Boise State University (2006-2012) where he earned a Masters of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Foundational Studies, was a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for one year before being promoted to Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for football and was also the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of gymnastics, men’s and women’s tennis and softball.
From July 2012-December 2012, he served as the Head Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for football and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of baseball at Arkansas State University.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jeff back to the Iowa Conference as the newest member of the Norse coaching staff,” stated Hartl. “Jeff and his wife will be an excellent addition to the Luther campus and the Decorah community. Jeff’s experiences at Auburn, Arkansas State and Boise State have put him in a position to make an immediate impact for our student-athletes”
