The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (IIAC) has announced that 104 student athletes competing in the Conference's five winter sports met the requirements for being named to the Winter Sports All-Academic Team. The five sports represented included men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving and wrestling.
To be eligible for IIAC All-Academic Team honors a student-athlete must compete at the varsity level, be at least a sophomore in academic standing, have attended the nominating institution for at least one academic year, and attain a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
Luther led all IIAC schools with 23 honorees including a league best eight for women's basketball and seven men's swimming and diving student-athletes. Simpson was second with 21 selections and a league high eight men's basketball players. Coe placed third with 14 and five coming from men's swimming and diving. Loras was fourth with 13 and eight from the women's basketball program. Each of the top four schools sponsored swimming and diving.
Three times a year (fall, winter, spring) the Iowa Conference announces All-Academic Teams. Since its inception in 1993, Luther student-athletes have been so honored 1,880 times.
