Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

What is SAAC?

The student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and polices that affect student-athletes' lives on NCAA member institution campuses.

The mission of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenants of the Division III philosophy.

Luther College SAAC

Luther College has a SAAC organization that allows student athletes a say in how they run, what they do, and why they do it. Luther’s SAAC meets once a month and is composed of athletes from each sport who get together to discuss issues at Luther, within the IIAC conference, and at a national level. The athletes at Luther are able to voice their opinions in a comfortable environment knowing that what they say can make a difference.

Previous projects include making a haunted barn that is open to the public for Halloween, visiting and playing cards with residents at a local nursing home, funding a Christmas Cheer family, sponsoring a “Women in Sports” day for middle school girls, hosting a “National Athlete Day” for elementary school students, and bringing in sport-related speakers to campus.

Luther’s SAAC promotes NCAA’s slogan of “Be loud, be proud, be positive” and encourages their fellow athletes to do the same. From “bleed blue” to “Norse Nation”, Luther College’s SAAC is dedicated to bringing a positive spirit to each athletic event.

Luther Athletes Serving Others (LASO) is a program designed for student-athletes to further their holistic. LASO’s aim is to provide all varsity student athletes the opportunity to participate in service opportunities with organizations in the Decorah community. This will help develop a stronger relationship between the student athletes and community and allow both groups to share their skills, talents and passions while promoting the longstanding benefits of community involvement and service.
