Friday, Sept. 20 vs. Earlham
Illinois Wesleyan is hosting the 2019 Holiday Inn Express Classic II. Luther faced Earlham College (IN), a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
In a match that lasted nearly two hours, the Quakers defeated the Norse 3-2. Earlham won set one 25-20. Luther took a 2-1 lead winning sets two and three by scores of 25-20, 25-23 respectively. Earlham sent the match in to the fifth and deciding set after posting a 25-10 win in set four. In the fifth set with the score tied 8-8, Earlham put together a 7-3 run en route to the 15-11 win.
Luther controlled the net through out the match recording 11 blocks led by Rachel Luebbe who had a match high six. Paige Yontz recorded a double-double thanks to 11 kills and 14 digs. Sydnee Schreier also reach double digit dig totals with 10. Greta Stauffacher and Anna Jenewein led the defensive efforts with 23 and 21 digs each.
Sam Sixta also had a double-double dishing out 42 assists and also recording 13 digs. With her 13 digs, Sixta recorded her 1,000th career dig and became the only player in Luther history to have 3,000-plus assists and 1,000-plus digs during their career.
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 3-9. Earlham improved to 7-4.
Saturday, Sept. 21 vs. Lakeland
Luther fell to 3-10 overall after dropping a 3-0 decision to Lakeland College in today's first match. Lakeland posted set victories of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-12.
Paige Yontz led the Norse with a double-double. Yontz had a team best 12 kills thanks to an attack percentage of .303. She also tied for the team lead in digs with Anna Jenewein with both players recording 12. Sydnee Schreier and Brooke Greenwood were each credited with seven kills, and Sam Sixta dished out 25 assists.
Saturday, Sept. 21 vs. No. 20 Hope
Nationally ranked No. 20 Hope defeated Luther posting a .323 attack percentage, while holding the Norse to 0.94. Hope posted set victories of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-16.
Yontz once again led the Norse attack with seven kills. Greenwood was next with six, followed by Rachel Luebbe with five. Sam Sixta tallied 20 assists.
Luther returns to American Rivers Conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The Norse will travel to Indianola, Iowa to face the Storm of Simpson College at 7:30 p.m.
