Luther was defeated by Central College 58-56 tonight in Pella. The Norse led by as many as 11 points in the game, but a poor shooting evening caught up with them midway through the fourth quarter. Luther led 32-26 at halftime and 45-41 at the end of the third frame.
Central took a 54-52 lead with five minutes left and never relinquished the lead. Luther finished the game shooting 29.7% and was 5-of-12 from the charity stripe.
With the Dutch leading 58-53, Jenna Uphoff knocked down a three-pointer with 29 ticks left on the clock, that proved to be the final points of the game. Central missed two free throws with 23 seconds remaining and Laura Hamilton had an opportunity to win the game at the buzzer but her shot attempt failed.
Central was led by Kendall Brown with 20 points and Carson Fisk with 12.
Luther remains in third place in the league standings with a mark of 10-4, 12-9 overall. Central improved to 5-9 in league play, 13-10 overall. Despite the loss, the Norse have qualified for the six-team American Rivers Conference Tournament.
Luther will travel to the University of Dubuque this Saturday, Feb. 15. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
